5 Green ways to lose weight

Looking good is different from feeling good. Some people resort into extreme ways of losing weight just to look good this could include surgeries, weight loss pills, and starvation diet. Though our physical appearance can affect our self-esteem, resorting into unhealthy weight loss regime should be on the bottom of our list; surgeries can cause complications, infections and even death; cardiovascular diseases are associated with diet pills, and starvation diet can cause multiple organ failure. Because of these health risks, the best way to lose weight is doing it the green way.

Diet modification

The calories we get from the food we eat fuels up our body, so starving yourself to death will definitely not do you any good. If you want to lose weight, be aware of the amount of calories your body needs and the amount you are taking in. Modify to a low calorie diet but remember to still choose food from the different food groups. You may use the food pyramid to know how much and how little you should be eating for each food group.

Get physical

Sedentary lifestyle causes calories to be converted to fat instead of energy, thus we call the body fat as “reserved energy”. To burn out this reserved energy, one must do something that requires energy like sports, dancing, and workouts. The greater the amount of energy a particular activity needs the greater amount of body fat you burn.

Keep hydrated

An average human body is composed of 60% water. If this percentage is abnormally decreased, body organs cannot function efficiently thus the person feels anergic (lack of energy). This feeling of anergia when the body lacks water is a sign that the body cannot convert fat to energy efficiently. Therefore, every glass of water you drink contributes to a healthy weight loss.

Get enough sleep

Sleeping may sound so lazy, but getting enough sleep can help you lose weight. While we are sleeping, the body increases the appetite- suppressing hormone Leptin and decreases the appetite- stimulating hormone Ghelin. As you wake up from a good night sleep, you will feel full, thus causing lesser food consumption leading to weight loss.

Negate negativism

Stress can lead to depression; and depression causes people to eat thus leading to weight gain. As much as possible avoid people, places, and circumstances that can contribute to your stress. If you are happy, you have the energy to exercise and cravings are less like to occur thus you do not only lose weight but you get to be fit both inside and out.
