Being a green mom

More moms are looking to help the environment but how do you actually go about this? One of the key things to do for success is to get the kids actively involved. This may not be as hard as you think. Most kids are involved green activities at school.

Personally I do my best for the environment but I won’t do anything that is too time consuming, being a parent is hard enough!

Some of my tips on how to do your best for the environment.

Arrange a swap meeting with friends and family.

Kids get fed up with the same toys, so why not swap toys instead of buying new ones! Clothes also can be swapped or passed on to a new home. Many clothes are hardly worn due to kids growing so fast so why not put them to good use. There is nothing wrong with second hand clothes or toys!

Go to the charity shop first

When looking for new clothes or toys – think charity first.

You could well be amazed at what people give away! Clothes and toys are often at a fraction of the price. The clothes and toys are always checked to ensure they are in perfectly working order. Forget any hang-ups about giving second hand to your kids!

Grow your own vegetables

Great for getting the kids interested in vegetables also! Get them to do as much as possible, refer to them as their vegetables from planting the seeds to actually eating the veg.

Limit use of games consoles and tv.

If your kids are watching too much tv or playing computer games then try to start to wean them off this! This is no easy task however my tip is you have to offer alternatives. Try to get a list of other activities they can do and help them as much as you can. Reward them for sticking to limiting these activities; bribery is a good tactic as a parent!

Buy your kids a bike!

Why not buy a bike as well and go for a bike ride together with your kids! I am shocked just how many kids don’t have a bike nowadays. It is one of the best things kids can do, it keeps them fit and cuts out things like car journey’s!
