Heating and cooling are the two important areas of comfort at home for living happily. We all have heard about HVAC systems. The term “HVAC” refers to Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning which controls air temperature, humidity, and maintain the quality of the air inside the home.
Heating and cooling systems are sometime termed as central. Central heating and cooling system is a method that generates warm or cool air in one central part of the house or building and then distributes that air to the whole house or building. There are many types of systems that work as central systems different from usual split systems. Local heating and cooling gives warm or cool air at the place where it is desired or for small areas such as room air conditioners.
Items that are used in central heating and cooling systems are air conditioners, gas and oil furnaces, fan coils, evaporator coils and thermostats.
Most central heating and cooling systems are known as forced air systems as they force air through ducts for proper distribution. A heating system for a home consists of:
• Radiant systems produce the heat and distribute it throughout the house using radiators.
• Thermostats organize the process of a heating and cooling system. They are for turning on the heating or cooling systems to keep the home to a pre-set temperature. Other than a temperature control, these programmable thermostats can also be used to manage the timing and functions of the system and controls the overall energy use and costs.
• Solar Water Heating: If a central heating system provides hot water in a cylinder, then a solar water heating system can considerably decrease water heating bills. Solar water heating provide around 50-70% of the hot water for household, and the rest of hot water is then supplement to the central heating boiler.
Central air conditioning units are large machines designed to maintain temperature inside a home. Rather than cool a single room, these units rely on duct works and vents to keep whole house at the same temperature.
