E-Ricks, the New Eco-friendly Rickshaws

With everything changing to green and eco friendly, there are changes coming up in the transport system also. E-ricks are one of the eco-friendly transport options which have lower emissions and thus contribute to reducing the pollution levels.

E-ricks are a hybrid between the cycle rickshaw and an auto rickshaw. It has an inbuilt GPS system in it. This battery powered transport system is in operation in almost 43 countries across the globe.

The e-ricks are made up of components which are fully recyclable. It has a polyethylene cabin, a propeller system that is digitally controlled and a heavy duty modular steel frame.

The rickshaw is designed to work on sealed lead battery of 250W. If the battery is charged once, it will run up to 95kmph at a maximum speed of 25kmph. It is very important to charge the battery for 6 to 8 hours on daily basis.

The e-ricks consist of GPS system and a locator device that will enable a timely and safe service. These rickshaws can be used for ferrying people to the famous tourist spots around the city, for commuting domestic and international airports and even for a jolly ride, enjoying the fresh air. Two or three people can sit comfortably in these rickshaws.

These types of modern rickshaws are plying in several countries like Australia, England, China, Denmark, Canada, Germany and Italy. E-ricks were used earlier in many international events like the Olympic Games in the year 2004 which was held in Athens, at Expo 2005 that was held in Japan and the World Football Championship, held in Germany, in 2006.

Even India is planning the launch of these eco friendly vehicles during the 2010 Common Wealth Games. The drivers of the rickshaws will be given formal training so that they can ferry the visitors to the event, comfortably to their destinations.
