Energy-Efficient Appliances

The common home causes more air pollution than the normal car because most of the energy in our homes comes from power plants, which burn fossil fuel. Burning fossil fuels causes air pollution and contributes to smoke, acid rain and global warming.

Some of the main appliances in your home are refrigerators, washing machine, dishwashers, and air conditioners which stand for major energy consumption. Using appliances designed with energy conservation in mind, can save money in the long run. The more energy-efficient appliances require less energy to operate, lower your utility bill and help to protect the environment and keep it green.

There are some tricks to find out which models use the least energy and are eco-friendly. Here are some guidelines:
• Always check for the Energy Star label. Energy Star models are the most energy efficient for the most of the products.
• Consider both purchase price and estimated energy at the time of buy. In some cases, you may actually save money in the long run by buying the more expensive, but more energy-efficient model.
• Check the Energy Guide label that all the new appliances have. This allows you to compare the annual energy consumption and operating cost of different models.
• Try to buy appliances that run on natural gas, not on electricity. The initial cost of the energy-efficient appliances is more, but they will save your money in the long run.
• Make sure the product you are purchasing suits your needs as extra-large appliances waste too much of energy and money.
• For maximum efficiency, the air conditioner is of right size, properly installed and has a thermal expansion valve. Make sure all your ducts are sealed and insulated.
• Refrigerators with freezers on top use less energy. The energy efficient sun frost refrigerator makes powering a home both feasible and affordable.
• In washing machines the energy efficiency can be increased by decreasing the amount of water used. Front-loading washers generally use less water than top-loaders.
• The most efficient dishwashers use less hot water, have energy-efficient motors.
• Water heating is the third largest energy expense in your home. Use according to the need.
