Going Green Can Save You Money

You can save green and live green at the same time by reducing your environmental impact and trying to live a sustainable life.

Sometimes it might take a little more effort but you should be happy knowing that you are making the world a better place for many generations to come.

Here a few tips for going green without breaking the bank.

Less liquids

Shorter showers can reduce both your heating and water bills; both these practices will make Mother Nature smile. The idea of installing a low-flow shower head can make some people cringe but if you hop in and out the shower you should be able to greatly reduce your impact on your finances and the earth. If you’re not afraid of a little low-flow shower then more power to you!

Another water related saving tip is to avoid buying bottled water. Water is free so paying for it is bad for your wallet and it generates an enormous amount of waste each year.

Beg, borrow, and rent

You don’t need to steal to cut down your costs. You just need to think before you buy or better yet: borrow something from a friend.

Do you really need to own that new bestseller?

Why don’t you just take it out from the library or borrow it from a friend?

Get to know your neighbors and reduce the appliances and tools hanging around your garage. Return the favor and you’ll both be saving money and reducing your impact on the earth.

Recycle your electronics

Most consumer electronic stores are starting to recycle batteries, cellphones, and other small devices. You can take televisions, computers, and stereos to local recycling facilities as well.

Taking these items to the dump will cost you a lot of money and they also make unnecessary additions to the landfill.

Ease your energy consumption

Compact fluorescent light bulbs are the way to go! Install a few of those puppies and you’ll notice your energy bills going down. You should also make sure to unplug appliances and electronics when you’re not using them.

All of these small tasks multiplied over a few years are going to add up to major savings for you and the earth. Consider it an insurance policy for the earth.

Spend less time in the car

Or don’t drive at all. Maybe you don’t need two cars. Walking and riding your bike is good for three reasons. First off, it is a much more inexpensive mode of transportation. The second thing is that you will be getting exercise and the third reason is that you will be reducing your impact on the earth. Could it get any better?

It’s not always possible to ride your bike or walk to your destination but go for it when you can. Sometimes moving closer to where you work can save you money and save you lots of painfully annoying commuting time. If you sit in traffic everyday, you know what we’re talking about.
