Many times lots of negative issues are being put forth in regards to the bad things our pets are doing to the environment, but what is most often forgotten, is what the effects of the environment that we as humans have produced, is having on our pets.
To begin with, look at the environment that we have created. Where we allow certain dangerous chemicals to be placed into pet products, and although they may be only detrimental to our health indirectly, they many times are directly related to the poor health of a pet.
Considering they bring so much joy into our lives they should be better taken care of. Some of these chemicals are toxic, and even though have perhaps been approved by government officials as safe to be used around humans, they are certainly not being very realistic when it comes to the harm that they are creating within the animal’s body.
Another thing that has to be considered as well, are our daily products that we are certainly putting a great deal of recognition on as being dangerous to humans, without even giving any thought as to what it is doing to the pets.
Air Fresheners
It is wonderful to have a sweet smelling home by using air fresheners. They are fine when used sparingly, creating no harm to us humans. I wonder what is happening to our dogs and cats though when we bombard the house with a ton of air freshener as we hold our breath while we get out the front door? In the meantime they are confined in the home during the entire day while the freshener dissipates.
Not only does it have to be considered from a humane point of view of what we are doing to out pets, but one must realize that the exorbitant cost of visits to the veterinarian can often be avoided by utilizing common sense, and providing a healthy environment for our animals.
Pets Don’t Speak
Unfortunately, our pets cannot speak for themselves, so it is the responsibility of each and every pet owner; to not only ensure that the pets are not doing damage to the environment, but that the environment is not doing damage to our pets.
Even The Grass Might Be Dangerous
A simple example is that dogs and cats will commonly eat grass, unaware of the dangers that can be lurking there from pesticides and chemicals that we so commonly use to achieve that lush green lawn. Many times we are thinking that we are making our earth a much greener and attractive place to live, and yet unknowingly are exposing our animals to many hidden dangers.
The pollution alone that we are creating in our waterways is indicating that more and more chemicals must be used to treat the water in order to make it safe for human consumption, but again, very little is ever mentioned as to what these chemicals in the water could be doing to our household pets.
Basically what it comes down to is creating a livable and pleasant environment for all living creatures, with of course the emphasis being on humans, but understanding that our beloved pets cannot be excluded from this either.
