The following are some small and useful tips which when incorporated in our day to day activity will help us to save energy.
• Turn off unwanted lights and computers when not in use
• Clean your air conditioners unit once in 30 days
• Water heater thermostat should be lower
• Use an insulated blanket to wrap water heater
• Set your refrigerator temperature to 36 degrees
• Minimize opening door of oven when in use
• Unplug appliances which are not used regularly
• Use microwave oven instead of conventional oven
• Use warm water to wash clothes instead of hot or cold water
• Buy only Energy Star Label appliances
• Electric appliances should be used only when required
• Fluorescent light saves money and energy
• Insulate your home
• Weather stripping should be installed around doors and windows
• Switch off electrical appliances when you leave from work
• Plant more trees
• Air conditioning units should be shaded from outside
• Use energy efficient windows
• Use hot and cold water only when needed
• Green electricity should be used
• Don’t use mercury items in your homes. Dispose them if possible
• Use household cleaning items which do not contain chemicals which are harmful
• Use Low volatile organic compounds paints
• Don’t use mouse poison. Use traps instead.
• Get your home tested for Radon
• Fix all water leaks and save water from getting wasted
• Get water saving devices installed in toilets
• Don’t wash dishes with water continuously running from taps
• Wash clothes in washing machines only in full loads
• Close washing machine taps when no in use to avoid leakage
These are some tips for saving energy in our homes. Any kind of wastage of energy should be stopped. Energy is very precious. We should save it for our future generations.
