Thousands Visit EcoVelocity Expo in London

It’s only in its second year, but EcoVelocity in London has attracted a huge number of techno-savvy motorists who want to see the green solutions companies are implementing into their current and future vehicles.
EcoVelocity is just one of a number of new motor shows sprouting up across the United Kingdom, but it’s quickly become of the most popular. Open to the public for nine days in early May, 57,909 attended the show at ExCel, which was sponsored by EDF Energy. A number of high-profile car manufacturers exhibited new green technology, including brands such as Citroen, Peugeot, Vauxhall and more.
Visitors could test drive vehicles around EcoVelocity’s 3.5 Mile Road Course, which gave drivers the feel for how the vehicles performed in a practical scenario. A lot of manufacturers were keen to show the public the different measures they’re taking during production to cut down on emissions and make their vehicles more environmentally-friendly. It’ll be interesting to see how prices are affected for these types of cars, whether people want an all-out purchase or are considering car leasing.
Other exhibitors were present, such as show sponsor EDF Energy, which presented a range of eco-friendly charging solutions for people that already drive an electric vehicle or hybrid model. One reason cited for the increase in traffic was that the organisers of EcoVelocity paired the show with Grand Designs Live, to cultivate an eco-conscious audience that would be interested in both exhibitions.
Giles Brown is the MD of EcoVelocity. He was full of praise for the event, saying: “We are delighted to report that running the shows side by side has really worked well, with both events benefitting from new audience visitors.
“The shows are complementary and provide useful information to consumers looking for a more sustainable lifestyle. Not only did we witness a growing level of interest from EcoVelocity-specific visitors, but also found that visitors to Grand Designs were keen to discover more about low carbon vehicles and how they could fit into their wider eco-living aspirations.”
EcoVelocity is a joint venture between Media 10 and IGME Ltd. IGME used to run the amazingly successful British International Motor Show before it had to close its doors, thanks to the changing landscape of the automotive market in the UK. Undeterred, they began EcoVelocity in reply, and their second year’s response and visitor numbers will surely mean a long, bright future for the UK’s latest auto show.
