Energy Saving Tips – Use Less and Save More
Americans consume about 26% of the world’s energy: charging up our cell phones and laptops, leaving our electronics plugged in, cranking the thermostat to heat up rooms. The consequences of using so much energy is causing our climate to change and energy bills to skyrocket.
We can’t eliminate all our energy use, but we reduce it considerably. The less energy we use, the less CO2 is released which benefits everyone.
1. Consider turning down the thermostat when you are not at home and during the evening. A room temperature of about 60°F – 68°F is ideal.
2. When on vacation, turning the thermostat to 41°F will prevent the pipes from bursting in cold weather.
3. Draw curtains over windows at night; if curtains are thin, line them with thicker fluffy materials to help keep the heat in.
4. Fit weather stripping to external doors and windows.
5. If you use gas or oil heating, install a condensing boiler. They are more efficient than conventional boilers and will save you money and produce less CO2. (Possible tax incentives may also be available)
